Chronic Pain & Symptom
Pain is a signal of danger, alerting us to potential harm. However, our brains can sometimes misinterpret sensations, perceiving danger even when none exists. Recent studies show, that this can lead to persistent pain and other symptoms, even in the absence of any current physical injury.
Don’t get me wrong. The pain you are experiencing is absolutely real, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You may know this as TMS, neuroplastic pain, centralized sensitization disorder, or the mind-body syndrome. If you are experiencing chronic pain such as fibromyalgia, back pain, joint and musculoskeletal pain, migraine, headache, IBS, and pelvic pain, to name a few, I am here to help.
The good news is that there is a new and highly effective treatment called Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). As a certified PRT provider and former Clinical Director at the Pain Psychology Center, I have extensive experience helping individuals overcome chronic pain. Additionally, I utilize EMDR therapy to address any trauma related to the pain experience, providing a comprehensive and personalized approach to healing.
Anxiety
We have all experienced anxiety in our lives. For some, it can feel unmanageable. Anxiety can come in many forms - worry, nervousness, overwhelm, phobias, or that feeling you get in your chest or the pit of your stomach.
When we feel threatened, whether it's a concern for our physical well-being, the safety of our kids, or uncertainty about the future, we often find it difficult to be present in the moment. This can be extremely uncomfortable and even debilitating. Overcoming anxiety can bring a newfound sense of freedom to enjoy life and be present with the people you love.
I understand this struggle, and I'm here to help. Through a combination of evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness techniques, we can work together to identify the root causes of your anxiety and develop strategies to manage it effectively.
Trauma
I believe trauma is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes, these are clear distressing moments from the past, and sometimes, traumas are more nuanced memories that can keep us in a holding pattern.
We carry trauma in our bodies. This can show up as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, and even physical pain.
Past experiences don’t have to continue holding you back. Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) has become the new gold standard of treatment for trauma, as I will discuss on the Methods Page.
Imagine a life where…
You can once again enjoy activities that currently feel out of reach.
You can feel fully engaged in your relationships.
Your thoughts are no longer about the things that scare you but about the things that make you happy.
Your past no longer controls you.
